Submit name guidelines
On this page, you’ll see a form that can be used to submit names. Learn how do to so below.
Enter name – The enter name field is where you can write in the name you are wanting to submit. This is required on the form. If you know that the name you’re suggesting can be written using another writing system, please include that alongside the English translation.
Pronunciation – This isn’t strictly necessary but can be helpful to others who might need to know the pronunciation.
Gender – there are three gender options, Feminine, Masculine, and Gender Neutral. When filling out the form you’ll see a drop-down that allows you to select one of these. If you choose to select Gender Neutral (if the name fits that option) then the name will be shown in all gender categories. This is required on the form.
Meaning – When submitting a name it’s important you know the meaning behind it so this information can be shared with those who are looking for it. In that area, type in the meaning. This is required on the form.
Origin – The origin area on the form is a drop-down where you select the culture the name is from. If the name has multiple origins, select the origin that aligns with the meaning you’ve added or the first meaning you’ve listed. If the name has multiple origins, it will be added by a website moderator. This is required on the form. Origins are included in the categories area of a published post.
Name types – Name types are not a required part of the form, they’re something you choose if you feel it fits the name. Name types consist of Character names, Names for pets, and Nicknames.
Character names is an option you select when you think the name could be used as inspiration for a character’s name. It can also be used when a name is most associated with a character from a piece of media.
Names for pets is an option you would select if the name is common for an animal or eccentric, suited for a pet or anything that’s not a living person.
Nicknames is what you select when the name you’re submitting can be used as a nickname, usually something that’s a shortened name or a trait others might call their friends.
Themes – Themes are needed on each name post for different functions across the website. At least three or more themes should be selected for the functions to work correctly. A list of each of the themes available to choose from are under the themes area of the form. You’ll see themes that can be used to specify certain things, such as the ‘cultural’ theme, for when a name should be used with caution and awareness of the culture it’s from and that more research should be done. Themes are required on the form. As more names are added, themes will show more accurate results.
If you feel information might be missing on a name, email Nameette@gmail.com and one of the website moderators will fill in the correct information in the right place.
Post form
Please remember to check if the post exists before submitting it. It helps to reduce the amount of posts that must be checked before being published. If too many duplicate posts are submitted, a feature will be turned on for this form that limits submissions. Different spellings are allowed.
